I have Vista on a laptop. I have a folder with many, many files (.jpg,
..bmp, .png, etc.). I wish to copy or move the many .jpg files to
another empty folder. So far I cannot do this as a batch but only
individually.

Is there a method for copying or moving hundreds of files to another
folder in Vista?

Peter.

In classic view, click on the "Type" column header in windows explorer,
this will sort the files by file extension, so all of your jpg files
will be listed together. At this point, you can ****-click to select
all of the jpg files and click and drag them to your empty folder.

First you should install this ( 'Add Copy To / Move To on Windows 7 or
Vista Right-Click Menu :: the How-To Geek'
) for your right click context window. Then you can highlight all the
files you want to copy or move (e.g. with Caps+click for consecutive
files or with CTL+click for non-consecutive). Then right click on any
highlighted file and apply Move To or Copy To and it will deal with all
highlighted files in one operation.

You can do it just the same as with any previous version of Windows:
select all the files, cut them (Ctrl-X), navigate to the destination
folder, and paste them (Ctrl-V).

Do you have Vista's service packs installed? Seems to me the initial
release had some problems with file selection.

On top of what everyone else suggested, edit/select all, then edit/copy or
cut. Open the folder the folder you want to move the files to then click on
edit/paste.

Open a command console window and type:

move from\*.jpg c:\to\

substituting your "from" and "to" directories, of coursse.

Many thanks to all. These techniques all worked as you said they
would.

Peter.
