I need major help! I have a new Toshiba satellite laptop with Windows Vista
Ultimate. On it I have the following software: Ulead DVD Movie Factory for
Toshiba; Windows DVD Maker and Windows Movie Maker. I have home movies on a
dvd and I want to make copies of it. I can't figure out which program to
use? Or, how to use them? I tried the Windows DVD Maker and I thought I had
loaded the video on my computer but then I got a message saying the video
cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not
installed on my computer?? What is this? I could use alot of help please!

Have a read of the above link to get the right codecs from installing the
program at the site.
When you put your DVD in drive, select open files; it should be automatic

Others will advise diff burn programs, but you need something like Nero, to
make an exact copy of a disk that you have made.

You open the program(Nero, whatever), select copy entire disk, it gets put
on your hard drive, then burnt to another CD/DVD.

You can do it with only one D Drive(preferably 2); it will tell you when to
insert an empty disk.
As in everything , you will have to learn the process.

As Mick said, you'll need to use Nero or some other utility for make
the copies that you want. But it is doubtfull that you'll be able to
succesfully do this with copyrighted material, because of protections on
the DVD itself, and because of Windows Vista DRM.

You'll have to do your own research for utilities that allow you to
copy protected content. Sorry

When I put the disk in I don't get any options to click on, the dvd just
starts playing. So I need another program such as Nero to make copies of
unprotected dvd's such as home movies?

I guess I understand why you couldn't necessarily copy a copyrighted disk but
these are just home movies on a homemade disk?

You can make your copies with Nero, or some other program like it.. They are
your Videos; so, it is OK.
You are looking for a CD/DVD burning program, OK

The ones on vista are for making and editing what you take on a camcorder
