copying user profiles

Dose anyone know the correct proceedure to copy a local user profile to a
new one after the system is joined to a domain in order to retain the users
settings, I have tried to overwrite the c:\users\%username% folder with the
old one but not all the settings are coppied.

this is doing my head in

The supported method of doing this is to use the Windows Easy Transfer tool
to gather settings, documents, etc. to export from the old profile and
import into the new profile.
