I have a 2 month old Toshiba Satelite laptop that in two months has
created 120 entries in the Vista (Home Premium SP1) system event log of type
"Corrected machine check". Toshiba's tech support says this could be a
Windows Vista software error, suggesting that I search the MS KB for it.
Having searched with no hits, I would like to ask if anyone here is familiar
with this type of error entry. I know from past experience that when you
get this kind of thing on a mainframe, it's always a HARDWARE problem of
some type, but having been told by Toshiba's tech support that this ain't
necessarily so on PCs, I have to give them the benefit of the doubt until I
can find out more about this.
Here's a little more of the details from the system event log:
Event 19 WHEA-Logger
Error Source: Corrected Machine Check
Error Type: Internal Unclassified Error
Processor ID Valid: Yes
Processor ID: 0x0
Bank Number: 3
Transaction Type: N/A
Processor Participation: N/A
Request Type: N/A
Memory/Io: N/A
Memory Hierarchy Level: N/A
Can anyone here help me understand the cause of this event? If it's
hardware, it would seem to me that it's indicating some kind of internal
parity or CRC check which Toshiba ought to fix before it gets worse. Right
now it's just silently logging the error with no apparent adverse effects
other than possible performance slow-down. Any help here?
TIA
