CORRECTED POST-Windows update local network problem-can you help?

Using Win XP Pro (no SP2 installed yet), I have a laptop networked to my
desktop computer. Since I installed the new v5 Windows Update software, the
networked laptop will not accept any updates (worked fine before). The
desktop is the internet interface, and has the XP firewall running- the
laptop firewall is off. The laptop's Windows Update page listed several
updates, but then gave a fail message without anything appearing to be
downloaded. Manual downloads of the update files from the individual KB
pages to the laptop worked fine. The desktop update worked OK.
I suspect there may be some simple setting on my networked laptop that I
need to change to get it to accept updates from the v5 update page- but what
is it?

Look in iuhist.xml (a file on your machine) for errors associated with the
failed installs. Compare them to those found here:
