First..

Now is a great time to point you to one of the easiest ways to find
information on problems you may be having and solutions others have found:

Search using Google!
http://www.google.com/
(How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )

Second..

It's a great idea (when posting to a basically anonymous newsgroup) to state
as much information as plausible/relevant. For example - we can assume you
are running Windows of some sort - but what? Windows 95? Windows 98?
Windows 98SE? Windows NT? Windows ME? Windows XP? Windows Vista?
Windows 7 RC?

In answer to your more direct query...

How to use Disk Cleanup
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310312

How to scan your disks for errors
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265

How to Defragment your hard drives
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314848

I'd recommend doing all three in the order given. Of course - I am
_assuming_ you have Windows XP.
