Corrupted DirectShow drivers?

When I run DirectX Diagnostics, it dies on me. When I re-start it, it says
it had a problem at DirectShow the last time and do I want to bypass this.
If I select yes, it goes through just fine. If I select no, it dies again.

I also have Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio dying on me when initializing
DirectX components which I beleive may be due to the same problem.

Can I just dis-able DirectShow and still work on my PC? If not, is there
some way to re-install this or figure out why it is causing a problem?

My PC also will no longer go to sleep but not being an expert user, I am
again not sure if this is due to the same problem.

Help!!!
