While using the internet, microsoft's digitally signed pop-up installer
indicated that windows update had completed installation and needed to
restart. After the restart, I opened again to find my optical drive had
corrupted or missing files and does not even recognize optical media anymore.
I have unistalled and reinstalled numerous times with the same problem
reoccuring:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be
corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Mike

Hi mistermichael,

See if the information in this MSKB article helps you to resolve the
problem:

CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19,
Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=314060

Please note that the Resolution has worked for cases not involving Easy CD
Creator.

Regards,
