Could Vista be the problem?

Here's the story... I'd reinstalled Vista Prem Home Basic on a Celeron based
machine without SP1 or SP2. And funny enough, the system locks up.

This is a fresh install. Although we did install her Verizon AntiVirus
suite, could it possiblly prevent the system from working right? Even though
we disabled it, for some reason or another when my customer shuts it down it
states that it is still running.

Please advise if the AntiVirus program prevents Vista from updating SP1 & SP2!

So is your problem the system locking up ? - in which case did it lock up
before you installed any additional software such as the Verizon AV?
Or is the problem SP1 and SP2 will not install ? Remember SP1 is a
prerequisite for SP2 so you need to install SP1 first. An AV product should
not prevent SP1 from installing

Something else that would be useful is when it locks up. Running a certain
program, doing certain tasks or randomly (which except for hardware or
overheating isn't likely).

Hi Greg-

No the computer is brand new... in fact things worked great before I did the
Verizon Antivirus application. Although, her Vista is the first edition of
the OS. And it took 2 1/2 hours (when it was shutting down) to install 77
updates... the know the message where it said: "Dont shut off or unplug your
computer" - now after that I'd installed her Verizon software.

And yes we were installing SP1 b4 SP2.

If the system "worked great" prior to installing Verizon AV...
then by all means uninstall it.

Reboot and install your service packs...
then get a better virus checker.

I've used the free version of Avast on my Vista "test machine" and it
worked fine.

It's what I'm thinking.... Philo... will do and see what happens. Next week
when my customer returns from her vacation.
