How could you Save Energy...

Hello Microsoft,

It's well known that the waste of energy has become a major preoccupation.
And that most computers use windows as their main application software.

There are many solutions to avoid a computer from wasting power.

But using the shut down solutions given by Windows Vista is not so
comfortable. Because, for example you don't want your computer to show a
saving screen during a movie played with other software than windows media
player…

I really think that Windows should add a function to allow you by right
clicking on the task bar, to shut down completely or not the computer after
the end of the current task (like file copy, burn dvd, watching media…).

I am aware that some software allows you to do this, but I think that this
function must be on Windows Vista.

The third party software would need to support it, as well. It would have to
return a value to say it is done. Otherwise, the OS would have no way on
knowing when the process has completed. Even by the CPU usage of the
application would be iffy to judge if it was done or not.

Great idea, but difficult to implement. I know Nero supports the shut off
the PC when finished. CloneDVD does as well, I believe.

sudo shutdown -h 120

Shuts down the machine in 120 minutes

Doesn't work in Vista though

Silly me, I thought this would be easy to duplicate in Vista (well, not
duplicate since the time would be clock time instead of elapsed time) by
using "runas", "at" and "shutdown" from a cmd prompt, but I can't figure
out the correct syntax. I tried

runas /user:<adminusername> "at <time> shutdown -s"

Whereupon Vista prompted me for the password for adminusername,
displayed the message "Attempting to start at <time> shutdown -s as user
"<machine name>\<adminusername> ..." and another cmd window flashed in
the background, but running "at" from an elevated command prompt showed
no entries in the list. I tried the "at <time> shutdown -s" command
directly from the elevated command prompt and it worked just fine.

I tried a number of variations on the runas, but none of them were
successful. Anyone have any ideas?
