Hello,
I have been unable to update Windows XP Home SP2 . I get the error code
0x80246008 when I check to see what went wrong. What can I do to get XP to
update properly?

Hi,

Please try the steps in this article:

The necessary services are disabled or unavailable. Error 0x80246008
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...icleid=9&ln=en

Note that Resolution number 1 listed in the link above is somewhat in
error, the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS is supposed
to be set to "Manual", and not "Automatic". Verify that you can start
the BITS service manually.

If the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" (BITS) service doesn't
start, try this:

Start Regedit.exe (from Start/Run)

Locate the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\BackupRestore\

Create the following key if it does not exist:
FilesNotToBackup

so you have this path when finished:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l
\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup\

Hello Torgeir,

I tried everything listed here and I still couldn't get Windows XP Home to
update. Could there be a conflict with my firewall?
