CPU Fan problem

Hey guys,

ive just installed a new heatsink and CPU fan to replace the standard
one on an Intel Q9400. The CPU fan works fine I can see it spin and
adjust the fan speed from a panel that comes with it but for some reason
when I boot up my computer it tells me CPU fan error and press F1 to
continue.

I assume because the fan is still working this is not a problem but
should I be worried?

I don't know as I would be worried but I sure would want it working
correctly. Maybe the fan speed is outside of the sensor parameters. Is the
fan speed shown in the bios? Does the speed vary as the computer is left
running in the bios (heats up = increased RPM)?

If it is not indicating correctly how will it let you know when there is a
problem?

No its not a problem, its simply the bios not detecting the fan on bootup.
I experienced this on one of my systems using a none stock variable speed
fan

Did you connect the new fan to the correct - CPU - fan header?

There may be BIOS settings which expect a higher speed than your new fan
runs at. Check the BIOS settings and warning levels.

Im pretty sure that could be the problem that the CPU fan isnt plugged
into the right header. Ill check it out sometime soon and let you know
what the outcome is.

Thanks for the advice!
