CPU restarts after shutting down

This has happened since the day I bought the CPU home. I am sure I clic
on the 'shut down' command and the CPU would shut down, only to restar
itself all over again after a 2 second interval. The only thing I'
doing now is to shut down the power supply when the CPU shuts dow
immediately so that it would not restart.

Never encountered this before and the guy at the computer shop told m
to download the Windows updates and this prob would be solved, but no
so!!! Can someone help please? I don't know what kind of harm I am doin
to my motherboard by cutting the power supply when it's trying to star
up again

Possibly an error on shutdown is causing the restart. See if this helps ....


Right-click 'Computer' > Properties > Advanced System Settings > Settings
(Startup and recovery section) > Uncheck 'Automatically restart', if
checked.

If that leads to an increase in 'blue screens' then note any information on
them.

Also, check BIOS settings. There may well be a setting that controls what
happens when power is lost, then restored. If it's set to "Power On" or
"Last State" (sometimes the default). Change the setting to "Power Off".
I've seen this on some older Asus motherboards (sorry, I've long forgotten
the model #'s).

On a newer motherboard (Asus P5Q SE/R) I found the setting in the APM
Configuration menu, as "Restore On AC Power Loss".

Find your motherboard make and model, go to their web site and download the
applicable motherboard manual, if you don't already have it.
