Hi everybody !
I've installed Win 7 ultimate in a VM but it always runs with CPU at 100% of
usage that blocks any other task.

I appreciate your suggestions.

What happens if you install in VMWare Player3 instead?
Player3 is just released and one of the new things is that it fully
supports Win7 with Aero graphics and DirectX9.
And it is free like VPC2007...

Bo I've installed Win7 ultimate in a VirtualPC 2007 machine. With this
VirtualPC is which I have the problem of CPU usage at 100% without any other
program running on it.

Yes, I understood that already....
So what I am suggesting is to try a virtualization solution that is
also free but has been *optimized* for Windows 7 use (both host and
guest). VPC2007 is lacking all of that and is likely a solution rather
much behind by now. Microsoft seems to have abandoned VPC2007 in
favour of Windows Virtual PC on Windows 7, which only works if you
have a CPU capable of VT...

I think you can even import your already installed virtual machine
into Player3 (it can handle VPC2007 guests) so you may also save on
the install steps.
You will gain support for Aero graphics and USB inside the guests,
just for that reason alone the switch seems to be worth it.

(I just upgraded my VMWare Workstation 6.5.3 to version 7).
And I have several Win7 guests that run happily with no problems
whatsoever.

Hi Luis,

Could you tell me which processor are you using? I have the same problem
with a AMD Turion X2 processor. With the task manager you have a limited
view about your system. In my case, I use the resourse monitor. I could see
that the disk I/O speed and the processor are the problem. There are some
applications in the internet like diskeeper that can help you to better the
disk performance. But about the processor with this experience with AMD, I
suggest you that don't buy AMD processor for virtualization, in fact I'm
changing my AMD laptop.

I hope this can help you.

Pablo, I also have VPC 2007 running with an AMD Processor. Maybe, this kind
of processors don't support well virtual machines. In other PC with Intel
Pentium, Windows 7 is running into a VPC 2007 without blocking processor
availability

Thanks,

Luis

Ato, yes ! I'm suspecting the problem depends on the type of processor. Like
Pablo suggests in this thread, it seems that AMD Processor don't manage
fluently VPC 2007 with Vindows 7 runnig into a virtual machine. Other
previous Windows versions work fine installed in virtual machines.

Thanks again

Luis

Mike, I wasn't able to test Windows 7 into VMVare Player3. After installing
VMWARE, my PC suffered general failure whitout detect its origin. I had to
format the hard disk and then reinstall Windows 7. I expect to make testings
with VMWare in then next days.

Thanks

Luis

Hi Luis,

Maybe the problem is the AMD processor, but I try using virtual machines
with VMWare, the performance is better but there's still a terrible
performance. The same results I had with Hyper-V and Windows Virtual PC over
windows 7. So, in my opinion AMD doesn't work fine with virtualization and I
don't recommend it.

Yes, I was not able to get Windows 7 guest (with XP host) running well on VPC
2007 on AMD processor machine (Athlon 64 X2). It ran, but was impossibly slow.

But it ran well on VMWare workstation (version 6).

I really wish Microsoft would update VPV 2007 and Virtual server to run well
with Windows 7 (both host and guest).
