Dink:
I experienced the same problem! Twice! The first time I downloaded
KB891711 was March 11, '05, but experienced Internet "connection
redirections" which would close my IE program leaving me online but without a
window. I uninstalled KB891711 to fix the problem on March 16th (see my
posts in this same discussion area).
Yesterday (Apr 19), I performed Windows Update again for Windows ME critical
updates, and KB891711 was included with it. Later that day, I performed
Puter maintenance which required I turn off Starter Menu items to run
ScanDisk and Disk Defrag. That's when I found KB891711 in my Utilities
Starter Menu!!! Ack! Now I have the Internet "connection redirection"
problems again! Problem is, I don't know when it will happen. I work online
and need to be able to stay online for long periods at a time. I can't do
this with KB891711 installed.
Some folks here are saying the problems are related to conflicts KB891711
has with the integrated Intel Graphics Controllers, but I'm not sure about
that. Either way, I say Microsoft has to FIX this stupid update so it
doesn't cause problems or DUMP THE DANG THING!!!
MICROSOFT: IF THIS UPDATE IS SO CRITICAL, MAKE IT WORK ALREADY! As it is,
I'm gonna have to uninstall this update a SECOND time.
