Crash Dump/Corrupted Files

Hey,

I only started using Vista for about 5 months or so, and I don't know if I
don't know how to work the computer or something, but now it won't stop crash
dumping on me.

I used to use Windows XP, so I'm not sure of anything when this kind of
thing happens, since it never happened to me before.

They tell me that I have a corrupted file, but I've deleted a lot of things
when I had the chance to, but it still doesn't work. I tried all of the
things that they suggested like restore or set it back to an earlier point.
No matter what I did it kept going back to that blue screen, telling me that
there was a corrupted file and it was a crash dump. I don't know what file it
is or how it ended up like that, but I can't get it back to normal. No matter
how much times I tried to fix it or even tried their methods they provided, I
couldn't do anything to fix it, and I want some opinions or help on this.
Please help me ASAP!

Thanks.

Hi Michelle,

Honestly, if it's that badly corrupted then I'd backup data (if you haven't
already), format the system and start with a clean installation. When you
talk about trying to save corrupted systems, it's a matter of how much more
time are you going to put into something that may end up being less than
satisfactory.

Oh, Thanks a lot for responding, I've tried backing up before, it worked for
a day or so and then crash dumped again, what does that mean? Also, could you
explain how do I format the system and start with a clean installation?...
You see, I've never done this kind of thing before... Sigh...

Hi Michelle,

How you start clean depends on what the system manufacturer provided, the
methods vary. Your system manual would be the place to start. If you are
still unsure, post back with system details (make/model/manufacturer) and
I'll see what I can dig up. Data files should simply be copied off to
removable media like CDRW/DVDRW or thumb drive. Make sure you have the
install files for any programs you downloaded, as well as any necessary
registration keys. Then follow whatever steps are used for your media.

Hey,

Okay, the thing is, I bought this notebook with everything installed in it
for me, so I don't really have the disks for anything... I'm not sure what or
how to do these type of things. I think I might be asking a professional to
help me with it. I am really confused about all of these terms... I should
really take a computer course about these things... Wow, there are so many
technical terms to these things. I should learn these things myself instead
of getting others to do it for me, but if anything wrong happens then I won't
be able to fix it. I'd rather get it fixed than pay for something more worse
after. Well, Thanks A LOT anyways, but it's too complicated for me to
understand...
