crash please help

My computer running vista home premium X64 crashed and I trie
everything I could think of
So I started replacing parts including my Hard Drive, then m
motherboard. but it still wont boot, could it be my CPU
any advice would be helpful as I only have a limited experience wit
crashes, my computers always recovered themselves in the past, like jus
reboot

My spec
Core 2 duo E6420 @2.13GH
XFX nForce 680i LT sli mob
6GB G-Skill ram DDR2 800 PC26400 2X1GB 2X2G
Origional HD WD Caviar 250GB SATA
New WD Caviar Gp 500GB SATA
EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320M
500W PS

This setup ran fine until now
PLEASE HELP ME! I'm going insane without my pc...
my sole source of entertainment

First thing. When you power up do the fan (fans) come on?
Second. Can you access the BIOS? IF so, can you see the harddrive i
installed ok

It could literally be anything. Yes, the CPU can overheat and die or
simply fail for other reasons. Ditto for the power supply and as you
noted the motherboard. Specs alone are useless. Give SYMPTOMS. What
happened when and what if anything did you do differently just before.
Just saying your computer crashed doesn't help.

Did you shut down correctly the last time it did work? Any power
surges? Does it beep? See anything on screen at all? If yes, do you
see the normal BIOS screens? Does Windows start to boot? Hear the fans
running? Does the hard drive spin up? Did you just install any new
hardware, software, updates? Stuff like that would be helpful.

Do you have any cards in the PC's expansion slots. If so you could try
taking them all out except video and placing one back in at a time until the
problem comes up. Make sure to power down since these are not hot swap able.
I had a PC like that this once & the PC would not boot with the NIC in it.

If, after your computer crashed, you have installed a NEW Hard Drive in an
attempt to make it boot, you are wasting your time, as the NEW Hard Drive
will not contain an Operating System(Vista).

If you install a NEW Hard Drive, you have to reinstall the Operating System.

My computer turns on and I can access the bios, everything looks normal
and correct, the Operating systems just wont run, And the vista setup
wont run.
All that happened before this indecent was a couple power outages the
day before, it restarted fine then.
No recent updates/changes before, it dose try to start windows and then
says that I need to repair windows, even when its the vista setup I'm
trying to run.
I only have a video in the PCI slot.-noted specs is entire system minus
cd drives, case, and display, the minor details.

The reason the specs are listed is I normally only post on gaming
forums. TY

You say that you can access the bios and things look normal
This means the motherboard is probably ok

You said you got a new harddrive but it did not help
Disconnect your orig main drive from the motherboard. (Just unplug th
SATA cable)
Boot into the bios. Make sure it has recognized the new drive
Also *make sure that the boot order looks FIRST to the (CDROM or DVD
drive*
and the harddrive SECOND. Save the bios

What happens when you try to make a fresh install of Vista now

I have done all that, I build my computers and this is the first on
that's died on me and really this is getting frustrating as I hav
replaced all of my components and the problem stays unchanged.
used a CPU out of a previous build, then the psu. None of the origina
components remain

OK. Do you have the book for your motherboard? If so, reset the bios.
This is usually a jumper. YOu remove the jumper, wait like 10 seconds
and replace it. This usually restores a screwed up bios to the default
.. Usually you can't even get into the bios when this kind of a reset is
necessary. YOu seem to be able to get into the bios so likely this is
not the problem but it's worth a try. Look in your motherboard book (or
download the manual online) and find how to reset the bios with the
jumper. IF you can't find it, give me the exact
model of your motherboard. I'll see if I can find it. If you reset
the bios and you still have the problem.
Then.....

I'm assume your Vista Disc will not boot -- but can you put any sort
of bootable DVD or CD rom into the CDROM/DVD drive and boot that?
I'm trying to find out if the CD/DVD rom drive is recognized in the
bios and is working. This might be the problem. IF the CD/DVD is dead
you will not be able to load Vista or anything else. Tell me how you
are sure it is working?

-- Usually your harddrive comes with a setup disc of somekind to format
the drive .. can you boot that? .. Do you have an old Boot disc from DOS
or Win98 or something you know will boot on a CD/DVD drive? Download
some freeware that will make a boot disc for something and make a
bootable disc of any kind to test the CD/ROM DVD drive .. Can you find
something that can boot from a CDROM/DVD on another system? .. What
exactly happens on your monitor when you have exited the bios and are
trying to boot a disc from your CDROM/DVD drive? Is it just black?

Hang in there. This is how we all learned this stuff. FRUSTRATION! BIG
TIME.
