Hi. I have a file which I have reason to believe has a bad CRC. Is
there a way to make vista do a scan of that file?

Vista does not scan flies. If you have a virus you scan with a virus
protector. If you suspect a corupted file its either Restore or Reload Vista

Please read the question a little more carefully before you respond.

Not a virus. I have a virus scanner.

The file is not part of Vista. Thus restoring or reloading it would
not help. Rather, there is a file which would not transfer via http
(over another application). The server handling the transfer dropped
the connection because of a bad check sum (and does so consistently).
It is my understanding that CRCs can cause bad checksums, so I wanted
to scan the file for a CRC error.

There have been tools for CRC checking in Windows as far back as
Windows 95. I wanted to know whether a similar tool was included in
Vista. I'd rather not install a third part tool on my user's laptop.

OK but my understanding was that those tool would only be third party
because I have never found them in previous versions of Win.

Think it best if you wait for someone else to answer!!

Kramer

Some details would help?

Without knowing what type of file, (zip, exe, iso, etc) where it's located
(CD, DVD, USB drive, Hard Drive, etc) Here are some resources.

Go to Help and Support in Vista and search for: chkdsk

Availability and description of the File Checksum Integrity Verifier
utility:
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=841290

If you have Nero:
http://www.nero.com/us/Nero_MD5_Verifier.html

The Official ImgBurn Website:
http://www.imgburn.com/

Object FIX ZIP v1.6.1 Freeware Download - Object FIX ZIP is the program for
repairing ZIP archive files reconstruct the specified Zip file and try to
create a new Zip archive recovering files from Zip file where possible.:

Simply copying the file should check it.
