create an association in the set associations control panel

I have managed to get into default and find the set associations but cannot
open an email attachment with a .pub file. I have found PUB in the list and
it has Microsoft office word as its association. I don't know how to change
this or what to change it to. Please can anyone help as I have several
attachments I need to open that are .pub files.

(Hint: Google ".pub" without the quotes.)

To my knowledge, you need MS Publisher, part of the MS Office Suite of
applications, to read that file.

Hi Deb,

*.pub files sound like files created with Microsoft Publisher
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/pu...r/default.aspx).

Unfortunately, Publisher files can only be opened by Publisher. You will
need a copy of Publisher installed on your PC, to view these attachments.

OpenOffice (a free Office-style program) can open many Microsoft Office
formats; but Publisher is one of the few formats it cannot open. So that is
not an option.

There is a workaround, if you need to view these attachments before you can
obtain a copy of Publisher. You can convert them to PDF files by using the
PDF Online server, at https://www.pdfonline.com/convert_pdf.asp. This is a
free service.

You're probably familiar with PDF files (they are very common); but just in
case, you can view PDF files using the free Adobe Acrobat Reader:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
or the Foxit 2.0 Reader (also free, smllaer, faster):
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

Note that PDF files are basically "read-only", you won't be able to make
changes to them. If you have a full copy of Puvlisher, you can of course
edit *.PUB files as much as you like.

pub file extension is used by Microsoft6 Office Publisher and is proprietary to Publisher alone.. You would need Publisher installed. You have the option to read them as Andrew has posted to you by converting to the pdf file format or you can ask the sender if he\she has it available in another format at their end which they can send it to you and you are capable of opening.,

Thank you to all that responded, I have managed to get the messages I wanted
and am very grateful for the suggestions. It is very much appreciated for a

I am having a problem opening attachments with .pps
cannot decide what to do, found the files in control panel default, bu
am afraid if I click on one, it might mess up other attachments. Anyon
have an answer to open pps attachments? Am assuming it is a power poin
program

If you have PowerPoint, then use that, though it should have
associated .pps when you installed it.
If you don't have PowerPoint, then get the free PowerPoint viewer from
Microsoft.
