I bought a downloaded version of Vista from Microsoft. I did not get a CD or
DVD. I installed it with a dual boot putting Vista on a little partition so
I could see how I liked it. No I am ready to wipe out my XP and Previous
Vista and start over. However all I have is this big zip file and unpacked
there is no documentation or anything for that matter on how to make a disk,
or make a disk from an ISO file.
Any suggestions??
Don

my case is somewhat similar. i had the contents of the vista dvd copied to
my hdd in a folder and i directly made a data dvd using nero and it turned
out the dvd was not bootable. now i dont know how to make a bootable dvd out
of the current one. the information available is confusing.

if i'm not wrong when u brun a disc from an iso and if the iso has a boot
sector the disk automatically becomes bootable. do confirm it with an MVP.
btw, what does mvp stand for anyway?

MVP
Microsoft, Most Valuable Professional..
I can log into my Microsoft account and re download the software, retrive my
key etc. But that does not help me.
To make a bootable ISO file is somewhat complicated and requires the orignal
OS disk.. Thus my problem, I have no disk to make a disk from. A real catch
22.

I found the answer to my question in the Micosoft Digital Locker help files..
Bummer
"Can I burn a copy of the upgrade version of Windows Vista I have purchased?
Yes, you can burn a DVD of the downloaded files, but you will need to copy
files locally on your machines before running the downloaded files. You are
also eligible to receive software fulfillment—a DVD or 5 CDs--from Microsoft
(you pay only shipping and handling). Order your backup DVD or CD copy here."

Even after the upgrade version is burned as an ISO image, it will no
install unless the old OS is installed. If the installation is on a ne
partition or new disk drive, the old OS must be installed and then th
Vista upgrade can be done

If Microsoft continues this practice, then one day we may have t
install XP then upgrade to Vista then upgrade to Windows 7 so that w
may upgrade to Windows 8 when installing on a new hard drive. Mayb
Microsoft is making this so painful so people will pay the much highe
price for the full versions instead of the upgrades

Of course it will, you just need to know how to do it, not much of a time
saver though.

WTF are you talking about? Of course it saves time: the time that
would otherwise be required to get the qualifying system up and
running.

It's clear you have no idea what your talking about and have no idea what
the procedure is to perform a clean install using a Vista upgrade DVD. You
have to install it TWICE, so tell me wise one, how does this save time over
installing your qualifying OS then installing the Vista upgrade? You still
have to do 2 installations.
