WLM: On some emails, I would like to create the rule “delete it from server”. I know it’s in there somewhere. Can someone please walk me through it?

It is in the list of actions: "Do not Download it from the server". It will
only work with items that are in the "From:", "To:/Cc:", or "Subject:"
fields. Anything tested in the body of an email requires that the email be
downloaded.

I don't believe you can "delete from server". The best you can do is have it
leave a copy on the server.

You will need a third party program to delete from server without
downloading such as "Mail Washer" which also allows you to view the email
without downloading it as well as bouncing it back to the sender.

Not exactly what you asked for, but you can delete your emails from the
server by using http://mail2web.com/ . This uses your browser, rather than
your mail client.

This is especially useful for deleting corrupted emails that get stuck in
the server and won't let your "normal" emails get past them and download to
you. Also, for times when large photos or other incoming messages cause
your mailbox to get full; you can delete a few messages to restart the flow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is what I found while fooling around:

Go to the "Message Rules" Folder on the ribbon and open it.
Click on the "email" tab.
Click on "new"
Check off your choice on the first choice box ( in my case it is "where the
From line contains people")
Drop to the bottom box.
Click on "contains people" which will be highlighted.
When the box opens, click on "add".
Type in or copy the sender you want to block. Click "OK"
Go to the middle choice box.
Scroll through your choices - check off your choice (in my case its "Delete
it from server". (last one down).

It's not as complicated as it seems - but - Outlook Express was real simple.

Also - I think there is a better or shorter way.

Thanks to all who responded.

WLM is really F***ed up.

There is no way to view email without downloading it. There is no way that
an email client can "bounce back" email to a sender.

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the From line contains 'The Grinch'
Delete it from server

It's not necessary to jump box to box..set up the first two(the criteria,
then action) then finish(specifics) in the last.

fyi....OE has the same boxes

I have several additions to the excellent advice from Winston.

The OP might need to change the order of the message rules, if
there are any other message rules in WLMail. A rule to delete
specific messages from the server (without downloading them) must
be first. Otherwise, earlier rules might take priority.

If the OP wants to delete messages from a specific sender, he
must enter the sender's name and the sender's email address as
separate senders. So, to block messages from The Grinch who uses
as his email address, the criteria should
read -
Where the From line contains 'The Grinch' or ''.

Message rules only work with POP3 mail servers. You cannot use
them with IMAP or HTTP servers.

Yea... w/IMAP you can download headers only, avoiding some of the
nasties... I'm not sure about HTTP.

I would strongly recommend you AVOID the "bounce back" option
w/MailWasher. It does no good and adds your noise to the useless junk
email servers and administrators have to contend with. AFAIC, MailWasher
is malware.
