How do I create new text documents
in folders on my hard drive ?

Are you saying you can't right-click in empty space in you rfolder and
select "new text document" or some other document type?
The context menu is expanded as you add more softwares installed, but
regardless - "New Text document" should be already there by Windows default?
If you're missing that, you need to repair context menu, ask someone else
for that, I forgot, I knew many things in the past but real life (not
computers) is more important now...
