new laptop, settings all verified and mostly work, but 2x the Blue Screen of
Death has happened. Here's the error log...

Level Date and Time Source Event ID Task Category

Critical 12/02/2008 1:12:46 PM Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power 41 None

The last sleep transition was unsuccessful. This error could be caused if
the system stopped responding, failed, or lost power during the sleep
transition.

Any experts out there that can help me troubleshoot this?

thanks, Jim

Purchase an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) although it seems to be a
great overkill for a laptop. This is just for some ruminations.

Short of that, perhaps there is a battery problem? Do you leave it overnight
with the power plugged in? It leads us back to the same idea of unstable
power supply.

Rural area? Frequent thunderstorms?

Another idea: There is a chance that Vista was trying to connect to the
Internet to do some housekeeping and your setting does not allow it to wake
up computer.

It is in Control Panel>>System and management>>Device manager>>Network
adapters>>Highlight your device>>Right Click>>Properties>>Power
management>>Allow computer to turn this device off to save power should be
checked.

The other one should be unchecked ( allow this device to wake up computer).

Thanks Alex. Power settings are OK and didn't need resetting; I live in a
rural area and leave the laptop plugged in overnight, that might be it,
although both crashes have happened daytime with no power surges I'm aware of.

Your comments appreciated, Jim
