Critical update has done something to my laptop!

Both myself and a colleague installed the latest critical
windows update that was available last week on our
identical Compaq laptops. Since then both of our machines
have gone into irreversible hibernation when left
unattended, and the only way to revive is to turn off and
restart. This happened to my colleague first, I only
updated on Friday and today my machine has started doing
it too, so we can definitely pinpoint it to the update.

Can anyone help???

I have no idea how to actually FIX the problem.

But, you could 'work-around' the issue, I would think, by
using the 'Power management' settings (from Control Panel)
and set them so that your machines do NOT ever enter the
hibernation state.

(Yeah, not much of a work-around...you will then have to do
a complete bootup. You probably knew this already.)
