critical update to IE6 (sp1) yields "Updates Not Installed"

Windows update tells me there is a critical update to IE6 (sp1) a 12min
download. I tryied it and got a "Updates Not Installed" message. I tried
again with the same result. There is no indication why the installation
failed. What's up?
