Running windows 98 I have downloaded the critical update (KB837009) 5 times
since the first of December and am still getting the notification that this
needs to be downloaded. When I check the history it say it was successful all
5 times. Why is it doing this. Am starting here to see if anybody has this
same problem or it is something wrong with my computer.

Which version of Outlook Express is installed ? Open OE, click Help,

OE 6 (6.00.2800.1123) I do not use outlook express for email. Have never set
it up. Just got this notification again. It may be a problem with explorer
have been getting a freeze up and have to reboot the computer. I am a novice
at this. Probably know enough to mess up my machine. This is just annoying
because it is something I really dont use. Thanks

Ah ha ... explorer freezing ! Best to go here and do these preliminary
steps towards removing malware : http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm

When you determine that the system is clean, boot to Safe Mode and
run the Internet Explorer Repair Tool :

Description of the Internet Explorer Repair Tool
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=194177

IF you need further assistance removing the malware than go to one of
the sites recommended . Afterwards, go to the Windows Update site by
clicking the Windows Update link from within Internet Explorer | Tools
on the Menu bar. See if the update installs correctly.
