I tried accessing Windows Update which always worked
before after the recent critical updates were announced.
I am running Windows XP Home edition 2002, fixpack 1
I scan for updates and it stalls at 0% complete.

I tried using the technique in the troubleshooter
labelled :Scan Hangs at 0

When I tried to follow the instructions, it told me it
would uninstall IEQ818529 and go back to original
settings. I allowed it to go through. It didn't solve my
problem and now IE doesn't appear in my list of programs
in the control panel..add / remove programs.

I downloaded IE6 again from Microsoft and reinstalled it,
restarted. IE6 works but I still freeze when I do Windows
update at the same place. 0% complete. And IE6 isn't in
my Add / remove programs.

IE works but Windows update does not.

I am on a linksys router cabled in, but Windows update
always worked before.

Is the site overly busy? (how would one know) or do I
have to do something to restore where I was and to
restore the Q8185429 version of IE.

Thanks for any and all help.

To get the update to work:
Right click the explorer icon on your desktop and click
properties
click the connections tab
click Lan Settings button at the bottom
remove the check mark by "Automatically detect settings"

This will allow you to get your updates.
