I have exactly the same problem, which seems to have extended itself into
software and hardware upgrades too. Do *not* get hardware updates from the Windows/Microsoft updates web page unless your hardware happens to be Microsoft manufacturered... Always get the hardware drivers (when you need them) from the actual manufacturer of said product. Same solution(s) for you as previously given for the original poster... Try one (or both) of these: Solution to try (1): Get Dial-a-Fix: http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix Use its options to fix Windows Installer, fix Windows Update, and all the Registration Center options. To find out what loaded and what did not load: click on start, select windows
updates, it will automatically take you to the windows update website. Once there, on the left side of the screen, select updates history, it will show what updates have been downloaded to your specific computor and it will also name the ones that did not. You can select them and it will state why they failed. Chances are that previous updates that were critical did not get downloaded, most of the time, the security articles that is necessary for the systems registery. I think this would be easier to try, it worked for me. Guys, I was having the same issue because I have a dual boot running XP on
both. I used the Dial-a-fix program and it worked like a charm. Thanks very much for helping out on this issue.
