Cross File RDC

Hello,

I am planning a Branch-Hub solution with DFS-R. Both end with W2K8.
The files will be created in the branch and will be replicated to the HUB
location for backup purposes.
In order to take advantage of the Cross-File RDC feature, I understand I do
not need to put W2K8 ENT at both ends. But one is sufficient.
But where should be the W2K8 ENT, at the branch, where files are created or
the the HUB, where files are being replicated to ?

Tks for your help
Regards
Emmanuel

The Enterprise server should be the hub. Create and manage replication
groups from the hub server.

Hi Danny,

Is there a specific reason as why I should create and manage the replication
from the hub instead of from the branch ? Does that mean that If I create
replication group from the branch the W2K8 ENT should be the branch ? Do you
have reference about the topic ?

Thanks for your help and support.

Hello Emmanuel,

Yes, Cross-File RDC, requires either the hub or the branch server to run
w2k3 R2 or w2k8 Enterprise Edition or Datacenter Edition.

Hello Emmanuel,

Cross-File RDC, requires either the hub or the branch server to run w2k3 R2
or w2k8 Enterprise Edition or Datacenter Edition. But as Danny said, it is
always recommended to have the ent server in the hub. Your case seems to be
reverse as opposed to most standard practice, that is the hub(usually main
office) contains most of the data and replicates to the branch and not the
other way around. From reading, it seems like your branch will be acting as
the hub. Before you decide on which end to place the ent server, you have to
look in the future growth of the comapny as well. There might be another
branch office in the future that might need the service as well. So will it
be better to have the new branch replicates from another branch or fromt he
main office.

Actually he is using DFSR for backup perposes. This is very common to
replicate branch office data back to the hub server to eliminate tapes
drives in the field.
