I've tried to plug a number of Media Readers (IOGear & Sony) into my Windows
Vista - Ultimate (32 bit) system (Dell XPS1210). I keep getting an Error:
"Expection
Processing Message 0xc000013 Parameters 0x7636023C 0x8544094C 0x7636023C
0x7636023C". Does anyone know what the error is and how to resolve it?

Install the drivers first before connecting the reader. Then connect when
instructed to do so.

USB card readers?

This solution has worked for some people with problematic USB devices:

Locate the file INFCACHE.1 in C:\Windows\inf

Right click on the INFCACHE.1 file, select Properties >Security > Edit, and give
your account full control.

Delete INFCACHE.1, or rename it to INFCACHE.1.BAK or temporarily move to your
desktop.

REBOOT

Thanks Mary,
I installed the drivers before attempting the first time... Any other ideas?

You could try this:

In the Start Menu, right-click on Recent Items, on the left-hand side of the
Start Menu, and choose "Clear Recent Items List".

Then right-click the Taskbar and choose Properties.
Select the Start Menu tab. Un-check the following options:

1) Store and display a list of recently opened files

2) Store and display a list of recently opened programs

Does the message still appear when you use a Reader?

(You can undo the changes 1) and 2) made previously).

It seems to be an issue with a multitude of causes and solutions. You may
have to search for keywords peculiar to your situation, such as including
the software and hardware you use, even software seemingly unrelated (like
Anti-Virus software). For example:

No idea, I'm sorry. But one thing I can tell you, however - 0xC0000013 is a
standard Windows error code, meaning ERROR_WRITE_PROTECT, The media is write
protected. In the olden days you'd get this error, for example, trying to
write data to a floppy disk with the write-protect tab on.

So whatever the problem is, something cannot *write*, to the media in the
media readers.

Also, the first word was probably "exception", not "expection". An error
like this would indeed make you expectorate :-) but not in the text of the
error itself.

Apart from that ... well as my respected colleague dean-dean suggested, you
may need to search around on the web, and/or contact the vendors of the
specific hardware. It's not a "well known" problem in Vista, with a solution
ready to hand.

Good luck with it,
