Crypto graphic error on SP2 Update

I'm trying to install XP SP2. It downloaded but when it tries to install it
errors out saying to make sure the cryptographis service is running. The
service was running but it seems that after I try and run the update the
service goes to a status of Stopping. Have to restart the machine to get the
service back to a started state. What the heck??? I just need to get SP2
installed.

See if running the batch file fixdb.bat that I have created helps:

Look for fixdb.bat under "Error 0x800710D9 Unable to read from
or write to the database". Download and run it.

No Dice. This is ridiculous. I ran the Batch file, I did the Catroot ren
procedure. Still, when I try and install SP2 it is changing the status of the
Crypto service from started to stopping. Then it errors out saying could not
verify Update.inf.

What is the fix and why does there seems to be so many recomendations? It
seems like a consistant error. SHould be a standard fix.


I need to get SP2 on this machine ASAP!
