cryptographic services stopping

when trying to install SP 1I have gone through a number of 'fixes' to get it
to work including the suggestions from MS regarding my cryptograhic services,
BITS etc to no avail. I have used command prompts from tech-pro to get it
started, but it gets stuck and when I check the cryptographic services it is
still set to automatic, but instead of started or stopped, it says stopping
and I can't start or stop it. any idea why it changes while I' trying to
install this update?

Why not just install SP2 - it includes SP1 plus other updates.

Well, I'm working with some tehguys on a forum to helpme clean out the bad
guys from this computer and they said to download SP1 and not SP2 at this
point. I don't know enouhg about these guys to figure it out myself. It just
seems odd that I can check to see the services are started before I begin
installation of SP1 then when it has failed and I check again, the cryto
services is not stopped, but stopping.

WHy wont this error get corrected if u reinstall windows over the top ie
using the repair tool on the disc??

oh and the last time i tried that fix it killed the HDD literally.......i
keep getting errors, bad index etc , no matter how many times i re formatted
the HDD....what fixed it was when i connected the HDD to a working system and
the the working system corrected all the HDD errors....
