Cryptographic Services wont start

I am unable to down load updates. I followed Marc Liron's procedure in
"Cryptographic Service Error" i.e. made sure Remote Procedure Call was
started, but when I click on "start" in the crypto Services properties
window, it doesn't start, I get the error message "could not start
cryptographic services" Error 193xc1. I went to Windows Update site but
could not find Q817287: Critical Update (Catalogue Database Corruption in
Microsoft Windows" as suggested by Mr. Liron.
I looked into the catroot2 file and there is an ederr file but no edb.log
file( I don't know wether or not there should be one). Thanks to everyone who
