CTRL-ALT-DEL logon

Hi,
Im using Vista Home Premium, and am trying to remove the welocme screen and
switch back to the XP style ctrl-alt-del logon. I don't seem to have the
afore mentioned 'Local Security Policy' option in control panel, neither can
I locate the 'C:\Windows\System32\gpedit.msc ' file. Any other ideas, or is
it not possible with the home premium version of vista?

I would think Home premium would have these tools but try it this way.

From the run command type mmc. Then add "Group Policy Object Editor" by
going to file-->Add Remove Snap-in-->Select the GP editor-->click add-->click
finish on the wizard screen--> then finally OK. The settings you are looking
for are under Computer configuration-->Window Settings-->Security
Settings-->Local Policies-->Security Options.

I don't seem to have the 'Group policy object editor' on the list of
available snap-ins.
Any ideas? Matt.

Looking at the comparison charts for the various Vista versions, it appears
that the Home Premium version does not have Group Policy Support. Perhaps
there is a registry key that can be modified but I am not sure where it is
right now.

Does Home premium have the netplwiz command? Try that and look at the
"advanced" tab for "Secure Logon".

Matt

The classic logon screen is no longer available in Vista. It's possible to
set the require CTRL+ALT+DEL to log on, but pressing these keys will still
take you to the standard Welcome screen.

Also, the MSC tools are not included in either of the Home editions of
Vista. You need to have Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate to get these.

I found this article,

which describes Open the Advanced User Accounts panel by typing in netplwiz
into the start menu search box, and hitting enter. Then click the Advanced
tab, and you’ll see an option for secured log on. There is a check box that
says for added security you can require te user to press CTRL+ALT+DEL before
logging on. I am logged in as an administrator and that option is greyed
out. Any thoughts.

Bryan, which Edition of Vista are you running? That option does appear for
me in Business Edition, ie it is not greyed out.

If that box is not available, do you have User Account Control (UAC) turned
off? If so, this could be the problem.

Regardless, this will not help with what you want to do. Checking that box
will simply display the message "Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to log on" on the
Welcome screen when you restart. When you press the keys, it will take you
to the standard Welcome screen.

Hi Jane

Bryan is running Home Premium.

Can you confirm what I'm seeing with these settings. Using the netplwiz and
checking the CAD option, what do you see when you reboot?

I am seeing the same behavior that I described in a previous message, where
the firsat log on screen has the message, "Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to log on" and
pressing these keys simply displays the standard Welcome screen with the
user accounts displayed. I tested this on Home Premium and Ultimate.
