Cumulative Security Update Internet Explorer for Windows XP (KB905

i noticed a problem with IE , it refused to open and gave an error "internet
explorer was not able to pone this internet site. the requested site is eithe
unavailable or cannot be found.please try again later. i reinstated service
pack 2 , and everything was fine , then automatic updates started to install
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP (KB90515), i
restarted and the whole error started again , i tried using other apps on my
system only to be told theres a kernell32.dll error .again i re-installed
service pack2 and no errors and i can use all my apps no probelms - until i
install Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP
(KB905915)!!!

help ????

Iam running Windows 98 and get quite similar phenomena, it got better after I
run a full system scan.

i decided to do sfc and it sorted it out ...the update still appears in
windows update but has a file size of 0kb...
kinda happy ..
strange tho ...
