Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for XP problem

When i run windows update, i get this failure message.. and i've tried
multiple times.

BELOW is the exact update which is failing sonstantly...

any help, or a finger in the right direction would be greatly appretiated...

Disable any third-party anti-virus, anti-malware (e.g. SpySweeper), firewall
(e.g. ZoneAlarm), popup-blocker, or download accelerator. If you need to,
enable Windows Firewall in place of any disabled third-party firewall.

Now try the update again. Does that solve your problem?

If not, go to Windows Update History, locate the failed update, click on the
"Failed" red cross icon in the status column, and copy into a follow-up in
this thread the 8-digit failure code which appears in a popup window.

i tried your suggestions, none of which worked... so here is the error code:

Error Code: 0x80242008


I also have another update which is doing the same thing, here is the update
and its error code.

Error Code: 0x80242008

I just realized that both the error codes are the same. coincidence or not?
I thikn not. what is the relation between these two updates and again any
help would be greatly appretiated.

This error code has been reported before, but the user never came back to
tell us which of the suggested fixes solved their problem. See the previous
thread at

I suggest starting with "Dial-a-fix" 0.60 beta from
http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix_beta to repair Windows Updates, BITS,
and crypto services, etc, then following other options in the previous
thread.
