Ok. SP2 auto-installed on my Athlon 64 machine. After install, it started
locking up on boot - not rebooting, just locking up - right after the loading
screen (before the welcome screen).
I was able to get into safe mode and removed SP2. It booted fine after that
- once. Then it said it had "found new hardware" (primary IDE controller &
secondary IDE controller), installed the software for them, and told me to
reboot. I assumed the drivers had been somehow removed when SP2 was
uninstalled... Wierd, but oh well... Rebooted per the system's request, and
it locked up again. GRRRRR... Tried safe mode, but this time IT LOCKED UP
TOO. Tried safe mode with command prompt, it flies through the ssytem files
until ....\mup.sys and stops and sits there for eternity.
I've got some software that uses activation keys which are generated upon
install, and I'm going to have to get back in touch with the company and
convince them to give me new keys if I have to reinstall windows. .. and
yes, I will, of course, be quite ticked... Not that I'm not already...
Is there any possible way to get this OS working again??
