cursor, mouse, keyboard freeze after update

I went into windows update, and there was 4 optional hardware updates. 1 I
think was a symantic (sp) pointing device for my laptop. 3 downloaded and
installed properly, but the 4th, the pointing device i think, in the middle
of installation quickly gave me a problem message on the blue screen that was
too quick to read and then shut down. On starting up, everything boots up
fine, but my cursor is not there, the keyboard does not work, nor my mouse. I
have tried safe mode etc etc but no luck. It is funny as as it starts my f8,
f12 etc w orks, but once it is booted nothing works.
Any ideas?
