There seems to be a problem with touchpads being too sensitive.
I've seen many posts regarding the cursor jumping as the user types.
I have not seen this behavior on my wife's Gateway laptop, running Vista
Home Premium.
If you have the Synaptic driver loaded, try to see if there are settings
that you can adjust.
From another post...
"Having the same problem as you (with microsoft ps/2 driver) I installed
v.10 synaptic touchpad driver for vista x64. Had terrible undesired
erratic movements/clicking.
You can adjust this in the setting-
Palm check and touch sensitivity.
