Hi All.

New vista user here - I digging it now that I've got it set up to my
tastes.

That said, one MAJOR annoyance I've come across is that no matter what
I do, I cant keep the custom order of my 'All Programs' and 'Favorites'
menus. I'm allowed to drag and drop in the order that I like, but every
time I restart it's always put back in alphabetical order.

I've unchecked the 'sort by alphabetical' in the 'customize start menu'
panel, and I've made sure none of the folders are sorted by name... but
nothing seems to do it.

It's driving me nuts... please tell me theres a way to do what I want!
(and no, i dont want some retarded work-around like putting numbers in
front of the names.)

Thanks!

Hi RockinAkin:
When you tried to "drag and drop" the Favorites did you do it in the
regular favorites list or did you try going to "organize favorites" accessed
by clicking the star with a green plus on it? I think changes made under
"Organize Favorites" are supposed to remain in place on re-start.

Hello yet again "RockinAkin":
I forgot to tell you how to change the order of the all programs menu!
You were on the right track and just forgot one thing! After unchecking
"Sort all menu programs by name" you need to click ok in the window and APPLY
in the properties window that comes up first. You can then drag and drop the
program names in any order. Good luck.

No need to fiddle in the Registry. While there are limits, you can
customize to a certain extent.

All Programs and Favorites are seen as just folders like any other
folders. So go to Windows Explorer, your root drive assuming it is C,
highlight it, then from there left click View, then 'sort by' then
more.

Now you should see an extensive list of options. You now have about a
couple hundred options. While I haven't tried it in favorites or All
Programs, perhaps using one or more of these optional sort selections
will get you closer to what you want.

What's missing in typical Microsoft fashion is the ability to add your
own unique classifications which would give you exactly what you want.

I use the sorting ability to arrange my extensive music collection.

Have you tried what 'xiowan' posted four days ago?

If you are using a web forum instead of a proper newsreader then you may possibly
be missing your replies.
