Many useful things can be added to the toolbar. But one seems to be
missing. Is there a way to add the menu items 'Show All Messages' and 'Hide
Read Messages?'

Sure would be nice for me.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, no. That feature was present in Windows Mail, and has been
sorely missed in Windows Live Mail, to the point that I keep using
Windows Mail for newsgroups.

Thank you, Gary.

I can live without it but I do miss it.

Another quick question on the same subject. I moved 'Mark Conversation' to
the tool bar but it doesn't seem to have any effect on anything. What is it
for?

It is useful only if you have "View by conversation" selected (I don't).
Then when you click on 'Mark Conversation', it will mark all the messages
in that thread as read.

Ah. That makes sense. I don't have that selected either.

Thank you.
