Hi guys, in a bit of a jam - was moving large folder from C drive to D
and the move (paste) process froze on 31 minutes. Crashed that but now
am missing vital data. Where would Vista put items that I can retrieve
them? They are not in Recycle Bin but if I do a Google Desktop search,
the files are there, just not accessible.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me find these files.

B

You can easily find them in your backup... oh, you don't HAVE a
backup? That WOULD present a problem.

I think you're in trouble.

Hi,

Sounds like the files were corrupted. Try going to the original
location/parent folder and right click it, choose 'restore previous
version'. This should allow you to recover the files from a shadow copy.

I always *copy* and paste large files then delete them afterwards, just for
this reason.

You may can solve that problem by simply taking ownership of that folder and
files.

Hi,

I was transferring my pictures from memory card to drive C in my laptop when suddenly my laptop was turned off due to battery low. when i opened my laptop again to check the files, the local folder i was copying to was empty. then i checked my memory card, and found out that the other files that were transferred are already gone.
how do i retrieve the lost pictures? where could vista have put those lost files?

i have to here from you, those pictures are really important to me.

thanks,
joan

Cut and paste places the file into the RAM. When the computer crashed the
RAM was flushed by the shutdown. The files are gone now. In the future take
control of your file operations by using copy and paste. Then, take the
extra step necessary to delete the original files "after" you are certain
that the copied files are competent.

You can use a recovery program to see what may be obtainable from the memory
card.

You can search for the pictures where you directed they be moved, but if you
are talking about a small number of pictures, they may have been in the
buffer and not written when your system shut down. In the future you may
want to copy your pictures and delete them from the memory card after you
confirm they have been written to the new location.

I would imagine your pictures are gone forever. You should have copied
them instead of moving them. Why didn't you make backup copies of the
pictures?
