cypress AT2LP RC42

I have an external hardrive, which has been working for two years. Then, one
day after a successful download of Microsoft updates, it stopped working. The
message I get concerns cypress AT2LP RC42 driver. I have gone to the website
for the manufacturer, but to no avail. When I browsed the internet, I found
several fixes, but I am afraid to download stuff from sites I do not know.
Hopefully, someone from Microsoft or another user can help me. PLEASE!
