I keep getting the d3drm error message and a close out of program and could
use any new ideas.
Per other advice and posting on this site I have: downloaded the d3drm and
placed in system32 file. I have tried placing it in the program file. Updated
Direct X and DirectX end-user. Ran compatability. All this and still no luck.
I can now download the program, but get kicked out when I try to run.

This is not even an old program, it is compatable with Windows 95 and higher
to XP. I just can't seem to find what to try next, and ideas would be greatly
appreciated.

If you have tried everything with no success, then your old - yes, old -
Mystery Program won't run under Vista. Some possibilities:

1. Talk to the program's tech support people.
2. Update the program if possible.
3. Find another program that will do what you want but is supported in
Vista.
4. Install Virtual PC 2007 (free) or VMware Workstation (not free but I like
it better) and create a virtual machine running one of the older operating
systems (for which you must have a license). Run the old program in its
native operating system.

Yes it will. It just isn't supported. Just ignore the "isn't supported"
message when you install Virtual PC. It runs fine on all versions of
windows.
