the same as unZIPing one... none!

there might be danger only when activating it's contents... the extraction
of a virus doesn't activate it, everything depends on how do you extract
the files...

So there might be a danger when "running" or opening a file but not unZIPing
or unRARing. Have I got that right?

I recently unRARed a file bit nothing was extracted!

Not true.
If you unzip a file that contains system files and you allow it to replace
the existing files you may well install malware.
You should get warnings but some users have disabled them.
Before the Linux crew say anything.. its the same on Linux if you are stupid
enough to do it.

You really do need to know what is in an archive before you extract it and
be wary of any that have absolute paths in them.

Depends if the RAR file contains child p0rn or not. If it does, the
authorities may come knocking on your door.

Cheers.

Never heard of an empty RAR file before. You are certainly an unusual case.

Cheers.

Right

maybe that wasn't a rar file at all.

it is very easy to fool windows just by changing file extentions...

No kidding. Why would a sophisticated operating system like Windoze still
rely on file extentions to determine mime type? Looks like the Windoze
developers are having a hard time leaving behind the DOS world.

Cheers.
