DEP is included in Service Pack 2. To disable it right click My Computer
on the Desktop or on the Start Menu, choose Properties.
Click the Advanced tab, then click the Settings button under Performance.
Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.
If you know which program that is having the issue with .avi's, then
put a mark next to the second option, " Turn on DEP for all programs and
services except those I select "
Click the Add button and navigate to the program.
Click once on it, then click Open, Apply, then OK.
If the first option is marked, then the .avi's are opening in Windows
Media Player. Choose the second option and add : wmplayer.exe
which is located in C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player (C:\ is the
most common location of Program Files. Your system may vary)
** Which Antivirus program is installed ? ** There may be a conflict
between the installed AV and DEP.
