Database location?

Where does WIndows Live Mail Desktop store its database files such as pst
files or the replacement for pst files? Is the storage location
configurable? Mine get rather large sometimes and I need to be able to set
where they are stored and backup or delete the files.

Thanks,

Dale

You can check that out by going to <Tools/Options/Advanced/Maintenance/
Storage Folder>.

Click "Change". ;-)

Hi -
I know this is an old post... but I am very "noob" re: Win 7 (and WLM).
I wanted to set my Storage Folder to a network location (so either/both our
home computers could do the "fetch" from our POP3 server, and then
either/both could see the full list of stored messages)... but when trying to
Change it and I browse to a non-local disk (including a USB zip drive I am
trying for testing..), the "OK" button is greyed out. Does anyone know if
this is expected behavior?

That is expected. The WLM data files have to be on a local hard drive.
Network and removable drives are not supported. This design limitation
goes back to Outlook Express.

I'm guessing that the developers didn't want to deal with the issue that
the data files might not be available when WLM starts or the potential
mess of users trying to share the data files across PC.

Mike,
Thanks for the quick response and good info!!
I guess my work-around will be to investigate syncing each local machine's
"Windows Live Mail\*.*" folder with a central (network) copy (i.e. xcopy in
..bat file..?).

Thanks again,

I got this to work with Thunderbird but it was not worth the effort. The
email folders were messed up every once and a while. I believe I would
occasionally forget that I was connected from one computer when using email
from the other.

The best way to do this is with iMap. Or am I mistaken?
