Daylight Savings Time Patch

Microsoft released XP patch, KB926255, to correct for the new DST. However,
it's currently optional and not automatically installed if your machine is
set for Automatic Updates.

Does anyone know why this patch is not considered critical? Does Microsoft
intend to make it critical before the new DST starts?

It was automatically installed on my Computer on December 16, 2006. ???

Chuck,

Yes, sorry I gave the wrong patch number in my last post. I should have said
KB928388. This optional patch addresses the new Daylight Savings Time change
in March 07. Will Microsoft make this patch critical before the DST change?

JakeF, when I applied the patch, it was listed in the "optional software".

Read this and you will understand why the patch wasn't automatic:

But, it is expected to be automatic in the near future.

Tom,

Automatic? Only for Windows XP SP2 users, I assume. Not for Windows 2000,
Window ME or Windows 98. Will it be automatic for Office Outlook 2000, 2002
& 2003?

Chuck: Since Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 SP1 server are the only ones
supported, they will be automatic. I don't see where the Outlook will be
automatic, but, if I were to assume, if you run Office UPdate it would be
there.

www.intelliadmin.com offers a nice little quick fix called "DST Fix for
Windows 2000" to take care of Win 2000 and NT4. Reports say it will also
fix older versions of WinXP and Win2003.

Well we are cutting it a little close to the wire here. I haven't read about
Microsoft making it critical coming up on "patch Tuesday". If they don't
include it as critical then, its going to miss our patch cycle and then we'll
have to push the update out via another mechanism besides WSUS.

If its already an optional update (stupid that its optional at all), what is
preventing it from becoming critical? Everyone is going to need this thing!!
