We had a DC die today at a remote site. Lost 2 drives in the RAID5 data set.
We may not replace it. If we do not replace it what are our options for
removing the DC from AD and removing the AD site? Can I simply go into Sites
and Services and delete the server and site and then delete the computer
account? Do we need to revive it?

Hello Joe,
If you lost a dc you need to use ntdsutil and you may need to seize the 5
fsmo roles as well as clean up the metadata within AD.

Run the following on another dc's command prompt
netdom query fsmo

This will tell you if any of the roles was on the lost dc.

Thanks Paul. I actually found this article right after I posted. Luckily
this had no FSMO roles on it.

Hi
-Do you have Backup of that DC? You can use it to rebuild that DC after the
RAID set is OK.

-If you don't have BK (remember next time to do it) and as others said,
perform metadata cleanup, remove old references in DNS and active directory
sites and services, make sure that you have an available GC, etc...

I hope that the information above helps you.
Have a Nice day.
