Provide an example with specific details.
Which update... what groups... what is the deadline.
Which computer... what group(s)... which updates are ready to install.
The shield in the system tray stating that updates are ready to install is a
NORMAL indication.
It only becomes abnormal if the updates are still uninstalled after:
- the next scheduled installation time has come and gone and the machine was
powered on
or
- the deadline for an update pending expiration has expired
Btw.. just a semantical point, but one that will help your diagnostic
efforst immensely -- the WSUS server does not "push" anything. The WUAgent
on the client system scans the database of the WSUS server for
available/approved updates. The WUAgent downloads those updates. The WUAgent
detects if the deadline is present or expired; the WUAgent schedules the
updates for installation; and the WUAgent initiates the installation at the
scheduled time (or the expiration of the deadline).
The WSUS server is passive, and its important to know this so that you don't
try to figure out why the "WSUS server is not doing" something, when, in
reality, it's the WUAgent on the client system that "is not doing". All of
the "is doing" or "is not doing" on the client system by the WUAgent is
dependent upon the information provided to it via its configuration and the
status of update approvals and downloads on the WSUS server.
